Just played my first game since 5th edition at a friendly RTT, 2 games, first against CSM and second against Raven Guard (2k points).

Been collecting, building, painting and trying to familiarise with myself with all the rules over the last 9 months or so.

First things first, I had a blast! Definitely missed this hobby and I had 2 great opponents who helped guide me when I was unsure about certain things. Just wanted to air some thoughts (will also post my list in the comments)

- Damn this game is so lethal! There’s a huge amount of hiding behind/in terrain and anything not in cover is almost guaranteed to die. It did make movement a lot more strategic and stressful than I remember it being back in 5th.

- I took the new Defiler. Dude can put out damage for sure, but I got really unlucky in my rolls. He was also a massive target for both my enemies, so in both games was dead by turn 2/3. Drones performed much better for me overall, both the BL and Fleshmower iterations.

- LoC and Deathshroud are as deadly everyone says, and both my opponents were doing their best to screen them out. They failed their 6” charge and the reroll in my first game and were wiped before getting to do anything. Did much better in game 2.

- Poxwalkers are fantastic. Cheap, good for screening, stickying objectives, spreading contagion. I want to take more in the future.

- PMs hit like a freight train then immediately die the next turn.

- Blight Haulers didn’t do much for me, mainly because in my second game there wasn’t a single monster or tank.

- I still find terrain rules a bit confusing, so need to revisit this, but of course will be updated soon for 11th.

- I felt there were so many rules, between the core game rules, my army rules, unit rules, detachment rules, enemies rules, which stratagems to use, etc. that it was hard to keep track of everything, though I’m sure this will get easier with practice.

- I found there to be far too many rerolls. Hitting on 2s with rerolls, then wounding on 2s with rerolls. It’s just too much.

Overall. Was a great day, lost 84-64 game 1 and 87-56 game 2, but totally worth it! Next time I think I’ll try more drones and Poxwalkers in place of the Defiler.
