Why is my crested gecko so scared of me?

This guy is a rescue, he was put into a small enclosure with another crested gecko about a year old when he was a baby and i rescued him about a month ago. i think he’s about 5-6 months old, and 5 of those months was in the enclosure with the other gecko.
That being said, he’s had no problems. he eats very well, drinks his water, and is very active at night. but even though he shows all these good signs, he is absolutely terrified of me and can’t seem to recognize i’m not a threat. i only tried to hold him once about 2 weeks after i got him, but he hissed and jumped as far away from me as he could. about a week ago at night he was climbing on the glass, and i slowly put my finger next to him from the other side of the glass to see if he would chill, but again he ran away. i’ve tried tong feeding him twice and he ran away both times, but he’s watched me put his food and his insets in there all the time. i’ve decided just to give him more space for a while, but is there anything i can do to help him realize i’m not a threat? i’ve owned many reptiles before and the one that was the most scared of me, my leopard gecko, is basically my best friend now. i just don’t understand quite what i’m doing wrong, and if it is my fault, so if anyone has any advice id greatly appreciate it. thanks for your time!
