Adult acne at 28 is not what I signed up for?

I had clear skin all through high school and college. Then I hit like 26 and my chin and jawline just exploded with cystic acne. Deep painful ones that take weeks to heal and leave dark marks behind. I've spent so much money trying different things salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, tea tree oil, changing my diet, new pillowcases every other night. Some things help temporarily but nothing sticks. I'm pretty sure it's hormonal but I don't really want to go on birth control just for my skin. Anyone else develop acne later in life and actually find something that worked? I'm tired of wearing concealer every day just to feel normal. Also how do you deal with the scarring? The acne itself is bad enough but the marks it leaves are almost worse.
