Davinci Resolve Digital Asset Management and Video Formats

Hello everybody,

I am new to DaVinci Resolve and have recently returned to video editing after an almost 10-year break. I am really enjoying it compared to Premiere Pro back then.

Back in the day, I worked professionally for a company where we had the convenience of a huge server for data storage. After finishing a project, I would archive the raw video files to magnetic storage, while keeping the proxies and logging information for future reference.

Unfortunately, as a hobbyist, I neither have the hardware nor the software for such a setup.

That's why I wanted to ask how you handle your digital asset management, preferably using DaVinci Resolve. I know that DaVinci offers the possibility of tagging videos with keywords and exporting that metadata as a CSV file.

Another question: Do you have a preferred video format for exporting logged clips in a way that preserves as much quality as possible? I am currently using ProRes 4444, but that seems like overkill for footage coming from my Sony A7 III.

Thank you.
