Serious comment first -

Sorry to those Cisco employees that are going to be laid off. Your hard work is making the company successful and it's unfortunate that your job loss makes for massive gains for the stock. Hope you land on your feet and find a better opportunity going forward.

Rejerk -

Posted two days ago about how I was going to hold my $100k of gains through earnings. I ended up trimming some of my positions and selling covered calls. I told myself I'd be happy if the calls got breached since that would mean a big swing up, but my pre-earnings moves probably cost me another $100k of gains. Oh well.

Screenshot from market open, ended up closing all the July calls, will hold the October and January unless market conditions reverse.

The bull thesis is that AI needs networking to move data around and that since November 2022 (when chatgpt was made public) Cisco has underperformed against QQQ. I had said that even if Cisco just catches up to QQQ, that would mean $120, which was hit overnight. I think there still could be potential here since AI infrastructure stocks should be beating the broader tech market, but that all depends on if Cisco can sell the narrative that they're an essential part of the broader AI ecosystem.

Riding $100k of gains into Cisco ($CSCO) earnings

Been holding Cisco calls since the beginning of the year.

It's barely been touched by the current AI infrastructure narrative. Since November 2022 (release of chatGPT), it's been underperforming QQQ, even while other AI infrastructure related companies have been booming. Even if it were to just catch up to QQQ that's another 20% of upside.

AI is needs tons of data and produces tons of data and companies need a way to move all of this data around and who better to capitalize than the OG of Internet networking.

While I don't expect to see Cisco doubling in value like other companies have, I could easily see it touching $120, if they can get their AI story straight.
