Questionable interaction between Elite Interceptor and Royal Treatment (?)
Good morning, and thanks in advance to anyone who can answer my question. A few days ago, I participated in an MTG Limited tournament (Secrets of Strixhaven) where the following interaction occurred, which I have some questions about:
- I have Elite Interceptor (https://scryfall.com/card/sos/12/elite-interceptor-rejoinder) prepared on the battlefield and I cast its Rejoinder spell;
- The opponent casts Royal Treatment (https://scryfall.com/card/soa/56/royal-treatment) on the target creature I had targeted to tap it, thus granting it Hexproof;
- The Rejoinder spell's tapping action, therefore, doesn't occur.
At this point, however, a doubt arises. As you can read about the Rejoinder spell, there is also a second instance of the spell: drawing a card. I think that since they're two separate sentences, the tap instance doesn't occur, but I can still draw a card, while I've been told that the entire spell is then canceled. This seems odd to me, since Rejoinder isn't written as "You may tap or untap target creature. THEN Draw a card", but rather they're two separate, unrelated sentences.
Can anyone tell me how this interaction works?
Thanks!
