I need some advice! Still newer in my career (Started working in 2021)

TL;DR: I’ve been in my current role for three years - discussed a promotion with my manager that went well. I’ve been told my title/pay adjustment is in progress, though I’ve only seen part of the raise so far. Now a managerial position has opened on a closely connected team, a member of that team has encouraged me to apply. I meet the qualifications, but I’m concerned it may look bad or create tension with my current manager since I’m already being promoted. At the same time, it is a major career opportunity in both pay and experience. What do I do!?

I’ve been in my current role for around three years. At the end of last year, I spoke with my manager about a promotion because my responsibilities had grown significantly, yet I had not received a title change or promotion since joining the company. That conversation went very well. I was told I had exceeded expectations, and they were working on adjusting my title and compensation. I was informed those changes would take effect anytime after mid April due to internal HR processes. So far, I’ve only seen part of the raise come through as a merit increase, and I haven’t received any additional updates (pay or title changes)

Recently, a managerial position opened under a different manager. Our teams already work very closely together on a daily basis, and someone from that team reached out to encourage me to apply for the role. I’ve been seriously considering it. I meet the qualifications listed in the job posting, but I’m hesitant to bring it up with my current manager—especially since I’ve just been given a promotion, even though I haven’t fully seen those changes take effect yet.

If I were to get this new position, I would still work closely with my current team and manager. My concern is whether applying could be viewed negatively or as a conflict of interest, given the opportunities I’ve recently been given in my current role. At the same time, this seems like a significant step forward for my career in terms of both compensation and leadership experience, and it could accelerate my long-term growth.
