Am an intern in the emergency department in my hospital

A patient came with polytrauma to the ER,he was midriatic,no breathing ,no muscle tone

I were in the room with an ER Dr and advanced nurse

I tried hopping in to the act and tried to feel his carotid pulse and i werent able to feel anything(please note that am extremely unexperienced in feeling pulse)

I told the Dr i cant feel his pulse

the dr told the nurse you can try 1 cycle if you want

the nurse did literally did 5 chest compressions and they declared him dead before even connecting him to the monitor

5 mins after we got out the room,i started obsessing about the possibility of him having pulse i couldnt feel and that if i werent trying to show off hopping on in the act the nurse may have felt pulse and we would have tried to save his life.

What are the chances his case was survivable and i did wrong?

As a previous intern how did you deal with guilt?
