SF apartment hunting advice for out-of-state couple?

Moving to SF from Oklahoma next week and trying to figure out the rental market.

My partner and I have an Airbnb for the first month while we look for a 1BR w parking. Ideally we’d like to be near Parnassus or Mission Bay since that’s close to my partner’s work, but we’re open to peaceful neighborhoods nearby.

I have a renter resume, paystubs from me (i work remote), 1-year rental ledger (can get 2 years), and my partner’s work contract.

Honestly a bit nervous because in Oklahoma apartment hunting is basically just walk into a leasing office and sign a lease lol.

Anything else we should have ready? Any tips for apartment hunting in SF or avoiding scams?

Any advice is welcome, thank you!

Moving to SF: should I remove my car dashcams?

Hi all! Moving to SF from Oklahoma in a few weeks and I’ve seen it’s recommended not to leave anything visible in your car to avoid break-ins. I already cleaned my car out completely, but I do have a front + rear dashcam installed.

The front one is pretty visible but easy to remove. The rear one is smaller, but still noticeable if you’re looking.

Do people in SF usually remove their dashcams from their car? Are visible cables also a bad idea, or is removing the actual camera enough?

Trying to figure out how careful I need to be. Thank you!

Edit: I wasn’t expecting so many responses, this was very helpful, thank you everyone! It definitely gave me a better idea of the situation there. I’ll keep my dashcam on and switch my plates as soon as possible like some people suggested. Thanks again!
