How is the blackest night event as a whole?

Been reading Geoff Johns GL and the corresponding GLC run side by side and am approaching Blackest Night. I don’t yet have volume 2 of Green Lantern Corps and am trying to decide if I should get the Blackest Night omnibus first. I’m fairly new to big comic events like this so I don’t really know what to expect and the only one I’ve read was World War Hulk and I found it kind of I enjoyable for the most part while liking the main core of the event. I’ve wanted to read this run and event since I was a kid but WWH kinda has me burned and thinking that maybe I should just read the core issues + green lantern + green lantern corps.

Geoff Johns Green Lantern trades

So I am fairly new to comic books and I was just curious as to the best way to collect Geoff Johns run. I started by buying the trade paperbacks through the sinestro corps war (what i am in the middle of right now) and was looking at the rest of the run just to map it out. It looks like some of the trades (agent orange and green lantern: brightest day specifically) are kind of pricey floating around 60$. Is it better to just switch to doing what I’ve done for tomasi’s glc and just buy the omnibuses unless i want to spend a lot of money? I’ve tried compendiums before and would rather collect trades or omnibuses so I was just curious if these are things that semi-regularly get reprinted or if its better to just fork over the upfront cost for the omnis.

Stories similar to Absolute Martian Manhunter

Sorry if this is the wrong sub for a question like this if it is mods please feel free to remove and direct me where a post like this would be better suited. So I am a pretty new comic fan (prior to reading the absolute universe mid last year i think i had read like half of the dark knight returns and green lantern rebirth) and have been loving the absolute universe. In particular i have fallen in love with Absolute Martian Manhunter. I love all the books in the absolute universe so far, except flash, but martian manhunter just feels different in the best way possible. Both the art and story just hook me in a way even some of the comics outside the absolute universe (geoff johns green lantern, planet/world war hulk, and some misc. batman stories) have hooked me. I was just curious on some recommendations of similar series to Absolute Martian Manhunter. I remember when I read World War Hulk I saw (I think it was called) The Immortal Hulk which was about bruce banner wrestling with the hulk for control and that certainly intrigued me to it. I’ve mostly been a manga reader all my life but I’ve been really really enjoying exploring American comics and am just looking for more quality stories like Absolute Martian Manhunter.
