Is my 8 month old too old for a ring sling?

Found a couple for cheap on Facebook and contemplating them. Got the Qookie Go but I can’t seem to get him in it securely! He turns to look out and slides out!

He’s little - only 17lbs - but quite tall. Until what age did you find the ring sling to be useful?
