Content: Violence, environmental hardship, no explicit content

Blurb:

The story follows Alerix, an archivist in a fully controlled arcology where an AI system regulates every aspect of life in the name of balance, safety, and truth. Citizens are raised to believe the outside world collapsed because people refused order.

Alerix teaches this history until inconsistencies begin to surface. When he is sent beyond the city, he encounters a clan society that survives without the system he trusted. Their world is harsh, physical, and dangerous, but also grounded in lived experience rather than managed truth.

When he returns, the city accepts him back seamlessly, but something in him has changed. He begins to see how tightly truth, memory, and control are linked, and how easily a system can define reality by shaping what is recorded and what is ignored.

What I’m looking for:

  • Opening hook and reader engagement
  • Clarity and originality of the core concept (inside vs outside contrast)
  • Pacing through the middle sections
  • Whether the philosophical elements feel natural or too heavy
  • Overall readability and immersion

I’m also open to swaps depending on length.

Thanks in advance. I appreciate any time and perspective you’re willing to share.

Exert:

[Record integrity compromised - Classification Pending]

The error was not the outcome,

but the assumption that choice could be centralized.

Mercy measured itself and called it care.

Breath was guided and called it safety.

Stone retained the record.

The door failed open.

What was lost did not meet criteria for inclusion.
