What can I use to clone a BitLocker drive?

What can I use to clone a BitLocker drive?

I bought a new Samsung SSD and was planning to use Samsung Magician to clone my Windows drive over to it.

Turns out my current system drive has BitLocker enabled, and Samsung Magician won't clone it. I honestly didn't even realize BitLocker was on until I tried.

The problem is I don't have the BitLocker recovery key anymore. Windows still boots fine and I can use the drive normally, I just can't get past that limitation in Magician.

Has anyone run into this before? Is there another cloning tool that can handle a BitLocker system drive, or am I out of luck unless I reinstall Windows?

Any help would be appreciated.

SSD upgrade on laptop - clone or fresh install?

Hey all,

I’m about to upgrade the SSD in my laptop and can’t decide whether to just clone my current drive or do a clean Windows 11 install.

Cloning seems easier since I can keep everything as it is, but I’m worried I’ll also be bringing over junk and old issues. On the other hand, a fresh install sounds “cleaner”, but also kind of annoying to set up again.

For those who’ve done SSD upgrades recently — what did you go with, and would you do the same again?

Thanks in advance.

How can I clone NVMe SSD to NVMe SSD with only one slot?

Hello everyone, I want to upgrade my 1TB SSD to a 2TB SSD, but I have only one M.2 slot, so I cannot have both SSD installed on my Windows 11 laptop. Both of the SSD are NVMe, so the compatibility should not be an issue. How can I clone my current SSD to my new one?

What's the best way to back up data from an old IDE hard drive?

I was going through some old boxes this weekend and found an IDE hard drive from a computer I used about 2 decades ago. Out of curiosity, I hooked it up with an IDE-to-USB adapter, and surprisingly, it still works.

The drive is probably close to 20 years old at this point, and after browsing through it for a few minutes, I realized it has a lot of stuff I don't have anywhere else anymore—old photos, documents, random projects, and a bunch of files I completely forgot existed.

Now I'm trying to figure out the smartest way to preserve everything before the drive decides it's had enough. Part of me wants to just copy the files off, but another part thinks creating a full image of the drive might be safer in case something goes wrong later.

How people here usually handle old drives like this. Do you make a complete backup first, or just grab the important files and move on? I'd rather do it right the first time, since I don't know how many more years this drive has left.

Is there a difference between a USB-to-SATA cable vs a USB SSD Enclosure for connecting a disk when cloning?

Hello everyone, this is my first post on this community and also my first time to clone a disk, and I want some help. I want to clone my SSD system drive to a larger one, but my laptop has only one slot, so I need external connection, right? Should I get a USB-to-SATA cable vs a USB SSD enclosure? Is there any difference? Thanks in advance for helping me out!

Pulled from a datacenter decommission — large amount of enterprise SSDs!

Just got my hands on a batch of enterprise drives pulled from a data center decommission. Most are still labeled, some are Samsung/Micron enterprise-grade SSDs. What do you think the value of these SSDs would be?
