I don’t usually buy clothing in Japan because of sizing issues. But now I need some cardigans / knit sweaters for (office) work this winter.

I don’t really know clothing stores. Went to uniqlo but everything is mostly polyester. And even then, it’s always the classic Japanese cut: short sleeves, slim shoulders, wide waist. I need to size up to 2 or 3XL for shoulders and sleeves, and then I have a tent.

Any recommendations on where to go? Looking for good materials (cotton / wool) and a more fitting shape. Not for fancy brand names.

Been mainly using linux for close to 20 years, with occasional windows use for certain software. So I’m just used to it. I’m still using (occasionally) a 2012 Thinkpad t420. Works just fine for what I need it to do, though admittedly modern websites bring it to its limits.

New job has me using a windows thinkpad with teams and outlook and edge and all that. Lord have mercy. 16GB of RAM are always close to full even with my apps only using 3-4GB max. A click or button takes a second or more for anything to happen, the thing runs hot af with me doing nothing but reading a webpage.

It’s so bad. I knew Linux was better before, but I wasn’t aware just how much better. How terribly bloated and worse Windows has become since the XP days. I had no idea.

Every day when I get home I need to briefly touch my own computer, just so I don’t end up hating computers in general.

Wow.

P.S.: and I have to use a bloody mouse again. My arm hurts…

We’re considering it, but want to be prepared for potential pitfalls. Grateful for your recommendations or stories.

#edit: specifically worried about issues with banks or other Japanese bureaucracy.

I’m usually a size 29 or 30 depending, long skinny feet with a straight big toe. I have one size 29 pair Oxfords from Aoki that I carry in my backpack and put on after arriving where I need them. Tolerable indoors, but I can’t spend a regular day in them walking to/fro the station etc. Very annoying.

I tried Isetan Men’s in Shinjuku today. The first pair the lad came back with was a 27 and felt like a climbing shoe. The second pair was closer but still bending my toes enough to be quite uncomfortable. He didn’t have any other ideas. They were also 6man+, which is more than I want to spend.

Help.

I used to buy shoes abroad, but I’m not leaving the country anytime soon. Anywhere in Tokyo where I can find decent business shoes in large enough sizes that actually sort of fit and don’t completely break the bank?

went to big-b in ueno and found something decent. But i’d probably recommend the gotanda store instead because it’s apparently MUCH larger with lots more high quality options.

abc-mart and others in ueno had no or very little large sizes in stock.

I usually use a pair of hd650, or an akg k550. They’re both very different but great in their own ways. They also each have their own weaknesses. The k550 really only work well in a quiet environment and preferably with some EQ, and the hd650 totally come apart and just sound muddy during certain songs.

The other day I randomly tried fostex th810 in the store, and hot damn they were perfect. Certainly the best phones to ever grace *my* head. But, of course, very expensive.

Are there other, less expensive cans that compare to the th810? (I know nothing about fostex, and little about headphones, as I’ve just been using my two pairs for over a decade now.)
