Headphone recommendations for university student

I am looking for recommendations for wireless headphones with a decent battery life (minimum 30 hours), comfort for extended amounts of time, and noise cancellation. Sound itself is not a major concern; most of what I will be listening to is lectures. However, I would rather it not sound like I am listening through a plastic cup. I have a budget of $300 or less. Thank you so much!

Does any have some headphone recommendations?

So I recently broke my headphones, granted they still work but in only one ear. So I'd like to get some new ones but have no idea which brand is good, looking online just leads to people being sponsored to say positive stuff so I have no idea if their genuinely good or not. Any recommendations? (Preferably noise cancelling)

More details:
-wireless
-over ear
-no budget

Marshall headphones

I've been looking for the right on-ear or over-ear headphones for months. At first, I wanted to purchase the AirPods Max, but they are out of my budget. Many people recommended the Marshall Major V on-ear headphones to me, so I want to know what your thoughts are on them.

Got the spigen sa hp p10 headphones

Got my headphones today for ₹2.6K, so here’s my first-hour review. I’ll be comparing them with my previous Boult Q, which I bought for ₹1.6K last year.

Build quality: 9/10 — Much better than the Boult Q. They also feel noticeably heavier and more premium.

Cushions: 7/10 — The Boult cushions felt more comfortable. These are quite mushy, but I’m hoping they’ll take shape and become more comfortable with time.

ANC: 5/10 — The Boult didn’t have ANC, so I don’t have much to compare it with. It works, but honestly, it doesn’t feel that impressive. It does the job, though.

Sound: 8/10 with Pop Mode — This is what I care about the most, and these definitely sound better than the Boult Q. Out of the box, they sound pretty bad, but Pop Mode makes a huge difference and sounds great to me.

The Boult Q had an impressive 70-hour battery life, while these are rated for 60 hours. I’ll mostly use them without ANC, so I’ll see how long they actually last and update this later.

Are they worth ₹2.6K? Absolutely, at least for now. They come with a clear hard-shell case, a 3.5mm AUX cable, and a charging cable, which is a nice bonus.

I’ll use them for a few weeks and post a proper one-month review. Let’s see if my opinion changes!

Damien Rice, Diana Krall, Amber Rubarth, Pink Floyd, Metallica, usw...

Vergleiche zu meinem Aktuellen Pi7S2 wären sehr hilfreich!

Vielen Dank

How should I get started in the audiophile world with a $100 budget?

I have around $100 to spend on headphones/IEMs (not including a DAC if one is necessary), but I'm not sure whether I should go for an IEM or an over-ear headphone.

I've had some problems with Bluetooth earbuds before, mainly fit issues and itchiness, so I'm a little hesitant to buy an iem. I've used over-ear headphones before and really liked how they felt and sounded. I found them comfortable, lightweight, and they had a nice "professional" feel to them, if that makes sense.

I'm looking for something that's a good all-rounder for music and gaming.

English isn't my first language, so i used chatgpt.

Optimal option?

What’s up guys! I have a question.

I’m in need of a new pair of headphones - and because I’m not an expert, I need your advice.

I talk very often with business clients, so I need them to have a decent microphone to keep my voice quality as best as possible,
And also
I like to play my games from time to time, so I nerd a good quality of audio to keep track where my enemies are.

So, can you help me?

What's the best wireless headphones you've actually used day to day?

My current pair is getting old and the battery is starting to annoy me.

I use them pretty much every day - music, YouTube, commuting, sometimes just wearing them around the house.

I care more about comfort and battery than having every new feature.

What pair has genuinely been worth keeping? Anything you ended up regretting?

Bose QuietComfort Ultra 2 vs Sony XM6 — help me decide (former XM5 owner, burned by the hinge)

I'm torn between the Bose QuietComfort Ultra 2 and the Sony WH-1000XM6, and I could use some outside perspective.

I previously owned the XM5 and honestly loved everything about it — great sound, good mic, great ANC, and I liked the touch gesture on the earcup to lower the volume for a few seconds. To be fair, I never tried much with the sound settings; most of the time I just hit play.

I work hybrid. Some days I'm home using a desk mic; other days I'm at the office using either the headphone mic or my MacBook. I travel occasionally — maybe 4 flights a year. No intention of using these at the gym or anything like that.

Comfort matters, but I never had issues with the XM5 — always found them extremely comfortable.

My problem with the XM5: the arm/hinge snapped out of nowhere, and I later learned it's a well-known issue with that model. Sony support was terrible — they just claimed misuse, and I was left unable to use the expensive headphones less than 2 years after buying them.

Here in Brazil, I actually have evidence that Bose support is better than Sony's, and I can extend the warranty up to 26 months for a small additional cost. Price and shipping for both are basically identical.

Setup context: I'm on Android, with a Windows laptop, a work MacBook, and a personal Windows desktop.

Here's where I'm stuck, and where I'd love input:

1. Sony's structural reliability. I don't want to rule out Sony over one bad experience, but I'd want solid evidence the XM6 is actually built better. From what I've read, the XM6 did add a metal-reinforced hinge — but there are also reports that the failures just moved to the surrounding plastic (headband ring, slider), a new "unscrewing" failure mode, and that Sony is still denying warranty claims as "physical damage." There's even a class-action lawsuit. For XM6 owners: how have yours actually held up over time?

2. The Bose early-2026 firmware update. I've seen a lot of users angry about the February firmware update that removed features (Bluetooth device switching via the physical buttons, battery voice prompts, etc.) with no rollback option and no plans to restore them. Since easy multi-device switching actually matters for my hybrid setup, should I be worried about this? Has it been addressed, or is it still a sore point?

3. Bose mic quality. I keep seeing people say the Bose mic is really bad, especially in crowded/noisy places. For anyone using the QC Ultra 2 on calls in an office or busy environment — is it actually a problem?

4. Passive vs active. One thing I do value: the Sony works passively (you can still hear audio with it powered off), while the Bose only works actively. That's a small plus for Sony to me.

5. Contradictory reviews. Honestly, the reviews are all over the place — some put the XM6 way ahead of the QC Ultra 2, others say the exact opposite. If you've owned or used both, I'd really value a grounded take on how they actually compare on sound, ANC, and mic.

Given my hybrid setup and the fact that I mostly just want reliable headphones I can trust long-term, which way would you go?

Thanks in advance.

are airpods max worth buying?

I'm looking to buy new headphones to replace my old 1st gen AirPod pro's that are now broken, I want to buy used airpods max off of eBay or smthn cause I want to stick to the apple ecosystem, but I don't know if they're high quality in sound or noise cancelling!!

I like to listen to music often, so if I bought them and they were low quality it would be a huge letdown for me. 🫶🫶

after reading some of the comments, I think I've decided to try and save to get the airpod Max's directly from apple, I don't have enough yet so feel free to try and convince me not to!!!

Help me choose Sennheiser momentum 4 or Skullcandy candy crusher ance

Everyone I've been doing research on both headphones and I really like base honestly my number one priority is that but I also don't want to distort the base too much but must have at minimum a slight rumble or a deep bass that you could feel. I know for a fact that the Skullcandy does this but I also hear that the skullcandies base tends to dissipate after a couple of months so I'm wondering if the momentum 4 or even the five has that deep sub bass that I'm looking for.

Besides bass I'm also looking for top notch quality and audio and I think these fit my budget and needs.

I mainly listen to hip Hop, rnb, rock pop and jazz at times.

Going to buy these in the next few days.

Please help

Looking for a new pair of headphones

Hi,

About three years ago, I bought my girlfriend a pair of Bose NC700s, but unfortunately they died a few months ago. They were already out of warranty, so Bose wasn’t able to help much.

I’d like to get her a new pair for our anniversary, but I’m wondering whether I should stick with Bose or look at another brand.

Would you say I just got unlucky with the NC700s, or is there a brand you’d particularly trust for build quality and longevity?

I’m mainly looking for a reliable brand, but if you have any specific recommendations for comfortable over-ear headphones with Bluetooth and ANC, I’d be happy to hear them.
Thanks in advance!

Looking for a high-end upgrade from my Denon D2000: musical/fun tuning with much better technical performance

I'm looking for a substantial upgrade from my current reference headphone, the Denon AH-D2000.

I've had the D2000 since around 2009/2010, and while it's obviously not competitive with modern high-end headphones in terms of resolution, detail and technical performance, I still really like its overall sound.

I also use Xenns Top Pro IEMs, which are another important reference for me. Interestingly, the frequency responses of the D2000 and Top Pro have a fairly similar overall shape, and I seem to strongly prefer that type of tuning.

What I like about the D2000/Top Pro:

• Elevated bass, particularly sub-bass
• Fullness and body
• Punch and slam
• Vocals that aren't too forward
• Treble with sparkle but without excessive harshness
• Most importantly, they're very forgiving of poor recordings

That last point is important. I listen primarily to mainstream music, rock, pop, classic rock, 70s/80s recordings, etc. My music collection is all over the place in terms of recording and mastering quality. I don't want a headphone that sounds spectacular only with audiophile quality recordings. One of the things I love about the Top Pro is that even poorly recorded tracks are still enjoyable, while excellent recordings can sound spectacular.

What I'm looking for is essentially:

The D2000/Top Pro tonal balance and musicality, but with a substantial upgrade in resolution, detail, separation and air/openness.

I recently tried the HIFIMAN HE1000 Stealth because I thought it might be the answer. I was very impressed with its resolution, detail and openness, but I'm having difficulty with the tuning. Without EQ it can sound thin and somewhat bright/harsh with some recordings. I've experimented extensively with PEQ and can get it closer to the tonal balance I like, but then I sometimes find it sounds veiled and loses some of the qualities that impressed me about it in the first place.

That's made me realize that I'd rather find a headphone that starts with the right tonal balance rather than relying on significant EQ.

I'm currently considering the Denon AH-D9200, Focal Clear Mg and DUNU Arashi, but I'm open to anything.

Budget: Around $2,000 CAD all-in, with some flexibility if there's a compelling reason to spend more.

Open or closed: Either is fine. This is strictly home listening.

Source: RME ADI-2 DAC with a WiiM Pro feeding it digitally.

Music: Mostly rock, pop, classic rock, 70s/80s music and modern mainstream recordings. Very little classical or jazz.

What would you recommend?

I'm particularly interested in headphones that are engaging, full-bodied and forgiving while still providing a significant technical upgrade over the D2000. I'm less interested in a strictly neutral/reference tuning if it means mediocre recordings become unpleasant to listen to.

If you've owned or heard headphones that fit this description, I'd really appreciate your recommendations, and especially any reasons not to buy the obvious popular choices.

Sony XM6 vs. AirPods Max for University

I've been looking to buy a new pair of headphones for university, and since I already own most of the Apple ecosystem (MacBook, iPad, and iPhone), I'm currently deciding between the Sony WH-1000XM6 and AirPods Max 2.

I know both have excellent noise cancellation, which is very important to me, but I have a few concerns that are making it difficult to choose:

  1. AirPods Max weight: I've seen very mixed opinions about their weight. Some people say they're too heavy and become uncomfortable after a while, while others have no issues with them. What has your experience been?
  2. XM6 hinges: I've heard some concerns about the durability of the hinges on the XM6. Is this actually something I should worry about?
  3. Price: The XM6s are around €400, while the AirPods Max are around €570, so there's a pretty significant difference, which I'm not sure is justifiable.

The most important thing for me is comfort, especially being able to wear them for several hours while studying.

Which one would you recommend, and why?

Noise-Cancelling earphones for concerts?

Hey.

Long story short, I despise concerts. Problem is, my gf doesn't, and I like to go with her to show interest in what she likes.

Problem: loud music and tinnitus. Hearing loss and all that.

So. I've heard that there's earphones out there that let you filter out loud noises. Would be a plus if I could use them for running, but that's optional.

Any experience with these kinds of earphones? Any great brands out there that, preferably, don't break the bank?
