Are SubQs necessary for CKD cats?
Hi, my 16 years old cat has recently been diagnosed with CKD stage 3. She was warded for 3 days and given continuous IV fluid, followed by another 2 weeks of daily subQ at 120ml/day.
Her bloodwork yesterday showed slight improvement in her values with her creatinine level decreasing from 314 to 275. The vet suggested another month of daily subQ, which I objected to as the procedure caused my cat so much distress and being an old gal, I don't want to subject her to constant stress. Also, she always appear listless and depressed after each subQ session, not even bothering to eat, only starting to touch her food the next day. The vet then suggested at least once every 3 days.
I am thinking of increasing her daily fluid intake through more soupy wet food to manage her hydration levels but the vet doesn't think it's a good idea to skip subQs altogether at this stage.
Is it possible to successfully maintain a CKD cat's hydration level without the use of regular subQs? Or is subQ absolutely mandatory for stage 3 & above?
I'm currently also giving her AminAvast & Porus One on a daily basis.
