Can anyone provide insight into what I might have seen?
Hello everyone. For some background, our neighborhood has been dealing with a new delivery person who has not been delivering our mail! Packages seem to get delivered, but our entire community are missing bills, credit cards, birthday cards, misc important documents, etc. I truly wonder where our missing mail is going.. and after what I saw yesterday, I feel like our missing mail is ending up in a dumpster somewhere.
So yesterday, she drives onto our street, and stops in front of my house. She delivers a package to the door, and goes back into the back of the van. The side door is open, and she is in the van, with her back facing me. There are two shallow square-shaped trays in front of her, and two larger square-shaped bins at her feet. She has some mail in her left hand, and with her right hand, she is going through the mail in the shallow tray to her right, and either putting some in her left hand, or dropping them into the larger bin by her right foot. Most of the mail she is going through is getting tossed into the larger bin. After about 2 minutes of this, she takes the mail in her left hand with her as she climbs into the drivers seat, and then she drives away.
After she delivered my package, she did not deliver any mail to any of my neighbors before getting back in her van, going through the mail, and then driving away. Even if something isn’t weird about that, what are the chances that NO ONE is supposed to be getting paper mail on my street? And this is purely my own assumption, but I thought that mail was sorted before the delivery person actually made it to someone’s house?
I do plan on contacting the mail authority, because I’m hoping that an audit or something will occur. Also, so many of us have already complained to the local USPS office, so they are well aware of the situation, yet this same person is still delivering our mail for the last three months. I’m really just curious about what she was doing, and if anyone with some insight into the mail delivery process can maybe tell me if this sounds normal or not. Thank you very much!
I’ll post an edit to my original post, because I realize that without additional info, I sound stupid for not just talking to her.
I have spoken to her, and I know her name. When I asked for any more identifying information, she stated that she was not authorized to give any more information, other than her first name. I had told her that I was missing a credit card and was wondering why I hadn’t received it, and what was going on with a bunch of other mail I was missing (I had signed up for informed delivery at this point, so I had a pretty good idea of what I would be receiving). She stated that unless our last name was on the mailbox, she would not be delivering mail and that she was returning all other mail pieces to the sender. The issue is that I knew this was not happening, I just did not want to antagonize the lady. She said that her “route was disorganized” and she was trying to “reset the system.” When I went to the post office to address my concerns, they were aware of the situation and told me to just put my name on the mailbox box. Btw, all mailboxes are individual and attached to the front of the home, next to the front door. Alright, so comply to the mail lady’s instructions — I should be getting my mail, right? Anyway, I guess something happened, because people started to get their mail, which gave me some comfort in thinking that I could reorder my credit card. It was supposed to come on Thursday, but never came. I mean, at this point, it just feels like our missing mail is sitting in a dumpster somewhere, or something illegal is going on!!
This has become such a big issue, that our county and state reps have been made aware, and we are just hoping to get some answers. If you’ve read this far, thank you so much. I promise I’m not being a weird tin foil hat shit bag. It’s just that I hardly see the mail lady, but when I do, she’s throwing sorted paper mail in a bin. Thank you.
