oblique baby at 39 weeks
FTM trying to get some insight from others and to just vent. I had an ultrasound at 36 weeks and baby was perfectly fine with head down. He was about 6 pounds and OB predicted he would be 7 pounds by birth which is average weight. Had a routine appointment at 38 weeks and 4 days and OB mentioned stomach is measuring at 40 weeks so she wants to schedule another ultrasound to see if it could be possible fluid buildup or is baby getting bigger.
Had my ultrasound today and came to find out baby is actually oblique with head up on my left side. He’s also weighting at a little over 8 pounds with large abdomen. OB is saying usually they would try a ECV but because baby is measuring big, she doesn’t want to do that. I have another ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow and she said if baby is still oblique, she wants to schedule a C-section as soon as possible.
Has anyone else had this experience? What are the chances of baby shift back head down if I decide to wait. OB is concerned I will go into labor while baby is still oblique and therefore doesn’t want to wait. I’m scared. We will know more tomorrow but can’t help wondering if it’s because I gained too much weight during pregnancy or sat down too much from working from my desk or sleeping on my side too much. Not sure if I did anything.. just trying to decide what’s best.
EDIT: thank you everyone for your comments. OB is concerned about the size of the baby and how far along I am. Baby is weighing at a little over 8 pounds and I am 39 weeks pregnant. She doesn’t want to risk me going into labor while baby is not in position and wants to avoid emergency C-section. Also due to baby size, she doesn’t want to attempt ECV to move the baby. I think the size of the baby plus how far along I am is the main concern and reason behind her recommendation for scheduled c-section.
