A Quiet Moment for Myself and my Mom
I was upstairs catching up on work. I could hear my mom downstairs singing to my baby. It was the same lullabies she used to sing to me.
I almost lost my mom to Covid back in 2020. She’s a nurse. She was one of the first to get severely sick. I remember frantically waiting for her to let me know how she was doing only for days to pass with no new calls or messages. Seeing her name and hearing her voice was my lifeline. We were living across the country at the time.
Today, she is downstairs as happy as can be to be a grandma. As I finished pumping, the house was quiet again. I assumed my baby was now sleeping. I was ready to do the whole routine of storing and cleaning when I looked down and noticed my sun catcher had seeped rainbows into my milk.
It was a loving reminder to take in this moment after those dark times. I forget to do that because I dread pumping, but this time was different. I needed this quiet moment.
I am sending extra hugs to you if you have a loved one that you miss dearly and can resonate with this story. Big applause and acknowledgement to all of you, mothers/fathers/etc., for nourishing baby in whatever way.
