Dealing with a dealership help
This will be long so I apologize but if anyone had any advice it would be greatly appreciated.
A few weeks ago my cars transmission went out and I no longer have a car which I need for work (2 days in office) and I live way too far to uber or anything like that (commute is 55 miles trust me I know) so now I have to get another car, this will be my first time buying a car ever and it’s been rough. I didn’t have any savings as I wasn’t expecting to need a car so soon and money has been tight it’s been hard to save, it’s not like I didn’t want to, just been hard with the responsibilities I have.
Anyways, I’ve been applying for loans and looking and so many cars. I find one I really like a 2018 Honda civic hatchback, 75k miles $20,596 on the website. I email them for a purchase order of the full price and all their add ons. They send it showing the net price $23,138 and then below with the add ons of a warranty and their GAP it’s a total of over $27,000. I’ve already spoken with the credit union I decided to go with and they explained their GAP and it’s way cheaper and I’m sorry but I am not paying for warranty that is over $3000. So I email that over my credit union telling them to quote me at the net price and they approve me for it with a 60 term loan at 6.40%
They tell me they need the purchase order only showing the net price so I email the dealership back. Now looking back I wish I had never asked for the add ons, and also wish I never mentioned I was working with a union. This is all I’m Wednesday btw, so I email the dealership and ask for them to send a purchase order without the add ons and for it to be just the net price so that I can start finalizing with my union. Absolute silence. Thursday morning still nothing so I send a follow up email and again nothing. I call them later that day I get told by the girl who answered that she sees that it was sent to me and tells me to check spam. Girl I’ve received nothing. She says she will tell the agent who sent me the first PO and that I will get it, okay cool. Yeah nothing comes. So today Friday I send another email, by lunch time I call and get a different girl, I explained to her I’ve been waiting and she says she will send a request for it to be reviewed bc at the time “no one was available” it’s now 3pm I send yet another email and then call AGAIN. I don’t even bother I specifically ask for the agent by name or his boss, the 3rd girl now tells me the agent will call me back in 5 minutes. Guess what? 40 minutes passed. I call a 4th time and say I want a manager, the girl tells me the manager has seen my email and is going to call me back, I ask for him now they say no. Whatever I asked for his name and waited. Finally 15ish minutes later i get a call from the manager, he asks what’s going on I explain that ive been trying since Wednesday to get a new purchase order. He asks if i need it because im working with a union, i say yes, he says “oh that’s probably the issue” he asks for the union, again i for whatever reason tell him and he says “yea have don’t have a partnership with them”
I was so close to hanging up, because first of not once before this did i mention who i was working with, and if it mattered so much why not email me back with a “hey fyi we only work with a couple of lenders here’s a list”
He tells me he understands how hard it is and how ofc i want the final price before making a long commute bc the dealership is also far from me so id rather not waste my time going somewhere if i dont even know if i can purchase something. Whatever he tells me i can come in and see if i can be approved with them, i ask if they’ll match what i already got approved he says he doesn’t know but that I could always refinance back with my union afterwards ??
I’ve been so mad idk what to think, i called my unions told them what was happening and asked if they had ever worked with this dealer and they said they at least haven’t heard that they can’t. Because with my union once I get the purchase order, and proof of insurance and proof the car is mine, they send me the check and that’s what I pay the dealer with. Because the manager was telling me they are unable to get paid from my union.
So idk I plan to tmr go with my bf to go see the car and test drive, my thinking is maybe yes I’ll finance with them and then once I have the registration and everything under my name i refinance. But idk if that’s a good idea, I really need a car and it sucks to be in a position where I need one and can’t really take more time. And I don’t want to be swayed by my attachment to the car, but I need a car lol. I have the original purchase order they sent me so I plan to have it printed and with me so I can tell them I want the net price and nothing above. Not sure if there anything I could say to maybe even get a lower price? I mean the car is a decent price but I’ve seen other smilies models with way less miles and way cheaper. Or just any advice on what I should avoid on them pressuring me to do something? I even have a print out of my experian credit score bc I don’t want them to run my credit unless I know for sure I’m getting a good deal.
I just need some support I guess, I’ve never been one to speak up or be aggressive for myself but this has me beyond pissed. I am inexperienced I’m only 24 so they definitely probably think they can get the better of me, I’m just trying to leave with a decent price lol and then refinance as soon as I can because seriously fuck themmm
