My first game — Eco Tycoon
Launched my first game today — Eco Tycoon ♻️. Here's what I learned building it.
After months of development across 5 sprints I just published Eco Tycoon, a recycling-themed idle tycoon. Thought I'd share a few things that shaped how we built it in case it's useful to others here.
The game: Players collect trash, process it through recycling machines, earn dual currency (Cash + EcoPoints), and upgrade their plot. Individual ownership model, slot-based machine placement, queue-based processing.
A few dev decisions worth sharing:
- We used an Agile sprint structure (2-week sprints with formal acceptance criteria) which kept scope tight and made it easy to cut features without chaos
- All economy values live in a single config script — nothing hardcoded elsewhere. Made balancing much faster
- We cut a lot of planned features to launch faster and iterate based on real player feedback. Tower defense, guilds, trading — all post-launch
- Used Claude Code for Lua script generation, which significantly reduced scripting hours
What's in v1.0:
- Multiple trash types + recycling machines with upgrade tiers
- Upgrade shop with prerequisite gating
- Global leaderboard
- Double Cash game pass (first monetization)
- Mobile compatible
- Basic onboarding
Happy to answer questions about the build process. And obviously — would love feedback if you play it!
