I think it's important to clarify that the UPF clothing is still mostly just plastic, and the Seawool doesn't magically make it "eco-conscious"
I know that a lot of clothing these days uses a lot of plastic, I'm not really coming at them for that because most of their stuff is. But it feels a bit greenwash-y to say it's an "Eco-conscious Seawool pique fabric" first and foremost and have a huge tag bragging about the Seawool content when:
- Seawool itself is mostly just "recycled plastic" with some ground oyster powder
- They claim they use ~60 plastic bottles per kg and blend that with more polyester which would make plastic the majority of the fabric. There is just a bit of ground up oyster sprinkled in.
- It's 20% Seawool, 51% recycled polyester. So effectively 65-70% plastic with the rest being cotton
I know you guys might say "well the info is all there for anyone who wants to look it up" but I think it's really telling that Luke, while live on WAN, had a gut reaction of:
And only found it was mostly plastic once chat called it out. Buyers won't have chat yelling at them.
I know they clarified later on the show that it's mostly for the "anti-microbial" properties (I've struggled to find any quantitative evidence of that, personally) but the product page literally have it being eco-conscious as the first selling point. I'm glad there's a bit of oyster in there, I was worried the PJ was going to destroy the environment /s .
Anyways, /rant. I'm just a greenwashing and plastic clothing hater.
