Hello all!
I’m dealing with a fraud claim with Bank of America and honestly it’s been a mess.
I filed the claim on April 4th for a significant amount. They froze my card and told me I’d receive a provisional credit within 10 business days. On day 9, they denied the claim instead.
I tried doing my part—reached out to the merchant to get things like login/IP/device info to prove it wasn’t me. The merchant basically told me they couldn’t provide anything and that the bank would have to contact them directly.
So I went back to the bank, had the claim reopened, and they told me to submit a written statement explaining everything—which I did. That was over a month ago.
Since then:
- Every rep tells me something different
- Some say it’s escalated, others say it’s just “under review”
- One supervisor told me a provisional credit was actually approved after reopening—but it was never applied
Now I’m being told because it was reopened, they don’t have to issue any provisional credit at all and I just have to wait up to 90 days
At this point, I feel like I’m getting the runaround. Nobody seems to know what’s going on, and no one can actually take ownership of the case.
I’ve already filed a complaint with the CFPB, but I’m still waiting to hear back.
Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Specifically:
Being denied provisional credit after reopening a fraud claim
Getting conflicting information from reps
Having a “approved” credit that never actually gets applied
What actually worked for you to get movement on your case?
And please—if you don’t have anything helpful to add, can you please not pile on. This situation is already frustrating enough as it is.
