Upgrading from I7-6900K

So, my current system is:

-I7-6900K

-32GB of DDR4

-RTX 3080

I have had this setup since the 3080 came out. Other system I had a few years before that. But when Windows 10 support ends, I think I will need to upgrade my CPU platform. To be fair, if I wasn't forced to upgrade windows, I would not upgrade. My current setup is great. It has been running the same stable overclock for 4 or 5 years. I have never had problems with it. I haven't had to not play some game because of my setup. Its crazy to me as the cpu is 10 years old!

I haven't been up to date on the latest of tech recently, but I think I should go for 9800X3D and 48-64gb of ram when the time is up. The upgrade most likely will happen during next autumn, if Win10 support ends. Maybe Zen6 will be out? Maybe I could bridge the gap with something else? Would upgrading to a more modern platform even be noticable? I can't go to Linux, as I need to be able to run Solidworks. And running Win11 on unsupported hardware isn't something I want to do on my main system.

Upgrading from I7-6900k to TR 1950X

Hello!

Im getting a free TR 1950X from a friend. I am currently running a I7-6900k in my main desk PC overclocked to around 4,4 khz. Mainly use the pc for gaming, CAD and other general tasks. I'm also building a general use home server/nas soon-ish.

Should I use the threadripper for the server, or use it as a upgrade for the main PC? Neither chip is supported by W11, so when W10 support fully ends, I would need to upgrade the gaming pc again.
