Sorry for the blurry pictures and the fact that they blend in with my floor. Looks like a beetle with a black head and gold(?) abdomen. He went outside (my own backyard) and came in with three or four of these on him. We got them off and combed his fur to make sure there were no more. I've pretty much determined that it's not ticks or carpet beetles but Google was not much help otherwise.
