Newish PC guy looking for help
TLDR: can my current pc run games a little better if i add a 3050 6gb card to it ?
So in December I bought a desktop HP m02-0224. It was on Black Friday sale and I just needed something for basic computing and sending g code to a cnc. Well since then Ive moved to a windows tablet that lives with the cnc and does everything I needed it to do. So that leaves this pc in the office just doing nothing most days. I understand the pc is very limited in what it can do but I’ve delved a little bit into pc gaming (currently have a ps5 ) after seeing some great game videos on YouTube.
I’ve been doing off an on research over the last few days and my son who is big into pc gaming suggested I just build a pc. However he suggested I give it a whirl on the pc I have before spending real money on a system I may not like.
So my question is and my sons suggestion since I my computer doesn’t have a dedicated gpu is to add a cheaper 3050 6gb gpu and test the waters on steam. I did download sons of the forest on my current computer but to make it playable I had to change all the settings to lowest.
The reason for the 3050 is my psu doesn’t have a power cable to run to another gpu and I would need a low profile model.
Specs on my current desktop are
Model: hp 02-0224
SSD 1 tb
Ram: 32g ddr5
And processor: Ryzen 5 8500
And I believe a 280w proprietary psu (don’t quote me on that just something my son said)
