I’ve seen so much mixed opinions about rebirth and I don’t get it they call it cringe and terms like disneyfication is used and some also criticized the gold saucer dance sequence calling it bollywood musical when the original ff7 itself was also so goofy with a lot of lighthearted moments and tons and tons of minigames and rebirth is just that with such incredible visual fidelity really the visuals are incredible it’s like a love letter to the fans every thing is expanded and made better except maybe Aerith’s which I find valid criticism but it’s open to it’s own interpretation I’m not going to talk about that in depth cuz it’s whole another topic.

Another criticism I don’t get is that it’s “bloated”yeah it is bloated but all the tedious side stuff is optional you can totally burn yourself out by clearing up every area before moving on to the next it’s optional just B line the story if you want. But honestly there are also some really fun side quests and there are even separate soundtracks for those sidequests and mini games and the soundtracks alone are over 110+ new ones included some of them are so good and annoyingly catchy

Now the other criticism I often see is that some sections in the game drag on for far too long which I totally agree yeah some of those parts could have been trimmed like Red XIII’ s arc and the goddamn Cait Sith section but those are some minor flaws and it’s not a rebirth problem it’s an industry problem cause every game needs to have a certain amount of hours or content to justify the 70$ price tag it’s just how it is. But in the face of everything the game does right this is just a minor gripe. There are so many things the game does incredibly, the combat is like my top 5 combat system of all time, all the fun mini games, the voice acting is top tier, the visuals, the boss fights are god tier especially some of the boss gauntlets and ofcourse the 20 phase boss battle at the end with Aerith appearing was so peak honestly I have a lot of praise for this game that I can’t mention here cause it’s already a long post all the small stuff which are equally as important which will take forever to mention here.

Another contentious topic is the narrative I mean the original already exists why not do something different and risky and I think that is exactly what they did the last thing I would’ve wanted from them was to play it safe and its coming from someone who loves the original ff7 story

Honestly FF7 remake trilogy is the reason I was able to get into Final Fantasy, I am a fairly new FF fan (20 years old) and if Square’s goal was to bring in new fans they atleast succeeded with me. And yeah original FF6 to 10 (except 9, haven’t played yet) are some of my favourite games ever because I fell in love with FF7 remake
