Can I Break My Lease if My Car Has Been Broken into Twice? (I suspect by the same person?) (MD)
Hey y'all,
So I am in a lease agreement which does not end for a year, and I had a couple incidents that occured so let me break it down
4/28 - Someone breaks into my vehicle - they do not steal anything but they place everything in my center console into a neat stack - very weird but I though nothing of it, I contacted the leasing office to let them know, started locking my door afterwards - no security footage of the parking lot
5/11 - Someone breaks into my trunk (because the latch has been broken- has been fixed since this incident) and puts rocks- like the rocks that line my apartment complex - in the back of the vehicle - at this point I contact my leasing office, they say I need a police report, I make one, I name one possible suspect they could reach out to, and I have heard nothing back from it (I will probably make a call tomorrow).
It feels weird because I do not think anyone understands how unusual this is for me / they are not taking it seriously because nothing was stolen / I was not hurt. Only 4 people in the area know where I live- and I think about two people in the area know what car I drive. This seems so intentional. I am a single woman and I barely know anyone in this area. I of course cannot say for certain, but the person I suspected it to be has a history of weird things when intoxicated, and they knew that my trunk was unlocked because they tried to help me fix it a few months prior. Truth be told we were in an intimate relationship, but that ended as of early March.
I do not know if this would constitute as stalking, but the person I suspect that it is is actually moving into the same student housing center as me next year- so I worry that it could only escalate as he will be consistently within walking distance or possibly in the same apartment complex as me.
Now- if it isn't this guy- that is even weirder and scarier. I am not friends with many people here and I do not have any known enemies LOL
Does anyone know what I should do? I appreciate you all!
