This Lucki discourse is extremely confusing…

To start off, DRB was GOOD not GREAT imo. Really liked the choice of beats but there were obviously some songs where the autotune and real lazy flow made the beats carry.

I’m confused on both sides of this entire discussion. The “this album fire yall annoying, yall ain’t real Lucki fans” and “it’s over, time for Lucki to retire from the mediocre bullshit” standpoints. And I just want to gain a better understanding fr. I’m not trying to hate on nobody for doing this or doing that.

Anytime new music drops, praise and criticism will come with it but in this subreddit it always comes down to an old fans vs. new fans discussion, and then it’s a clash. Let’s just face the real, Lucki’s intent to make music has changed. The man changed his life around, so his definition of good music is completely different. Has the quality of music seen a big change because of his internal changes? YES. Now our perspectives and our connections to the music is what’s causing a divide.

To the fans of the newer music: whats up with y’all invalidating the older fans’ view when they think Lucki’s delivery just isn’t consistent anymore? Sure his new stuff now can be deemed as evolution, but Lucki gained a strong fan base because his music at one point became relatable and ethereal. Nowadays people believe that his music doesn’t give off that same feel, so where does “yall not real fans” fit into that? Music is subjective at the end of the day.

And to the fans of the older music: if it’s so evident that he regressed with his music since Almost There or FLM, why can’t some people separate “not connecting with the music anymore” from “this is just objectively garbage”? It’s clear as day that his themes and quality of music shifted because he went from an isolated and often misunderstood lifestyle to a money, cars, and hoes lifestyle. I didn’t think I’d see Lucki revert to that either and maybe that’s the answer to this question, but I seriously don’t think his music is unlistenable because of that. Again, music is subjective at the end of the day.

I’m all for embracing the artistry that resonates with who I am the most, but what’s the barrier that makes part of this subreddit so divided? We can’t just embrace the artist for the music? That’s all I’m tryna understand.

Ngl I actually enjoyed my first listen to this. I mainly liked U Ready and Capo 2x, and I felt like this was another one of his introductions to a new sound that we’re expected to adapt to, but then I realized that Lucki said that DRB is supposed to be “conceptual”… given that this EP lacks the entire DRB theme with damn near all the songs except U Ready, it seems like Lucki just dropped this just to show everyone that he’s been in the studio making random shii. And I’m not even shitting on this but I totally understand why everyone is disappointed, and if the album has the same type of sound as this project, then I think it’s just time for dude to retire🤷🏾‍♂️
