How to assess if heavy usage of AI (in times of emotional distress), in the recent past has had negative effects?
From the outset, I would like to acknowledge that AI chat-bots are not substitutes for licensed health care professionals in the field.
An interpersonal incident had caused long term distress. ChatGPT was often used to journal out thoughts regarding interpretations, personal judgements and working through the constant replaying of the incident. A lot of times it would disagree, provide alternative perspectives, nuances on both sides, no verdict of right & wrong and encourage towards acceptance, moving forward and warning against radical self blame.
The incident was highly grey to be dissected. ChatGPT provided thought clarity, and encouraged towards seeking in-person professional help for long term processing and regulation.
Justified warnings against AI as a substitute for therapy have been issued in the media. I no longer use it as a therapy/regulation tool, as a result of such warnings by professionals. It hasn't caused any perceived harm, but wanted to know how can one asses the situation retrospectively.
