Lightning Bolt eating up the color
Took this transfer a while back. Love how it's coming along.

Took this transfer a while back. Love how it's coming along.
Been cleaning up of cultures, and reviving dried out and heavily contaminated cultures, and testing LC. A few of these are going nuts.
Sorry for the condensation, left these face up after getting distracted.
Pic 1 is a cleanup transfer from a spore print made from a wild found mushroom. Pic 2 is a transfer taken from that plate.
Pic 3 is a grain transfer w/agar from a jar that I found that had been sitting 2.5 years (was started in a friends basement and forgotten). I had dropped several grains on another plate and transferred these from that plate after bacteria started to take over the plate. The little trail is where the grain rolled across the plate.
Pics 4 and 5 were from agar cup cultures from February and March 2024 respectively. They were completely dried out, but with some sterile water and time they've resurrected beautifully on these plates, to my shock. These were literally cracking apart. These were found among belongings from a close friend who passed away, so I'm grateful they were able to make a come back (all of these were actually among his stuff when he passed).
Pictures 6-8 are 4, 3, and 5 respectively under my microscope at low magnification. Had a lot of fun resurrecting these dormant cultures, and the process has been very cathartic for me.
First transfer is going nuts. The grain jar pictured i also put to plate and grain to agar, and then sent it for the hell of it. The tub is colonizing rapidly, despite being the grossest looking grain I've ever seen. The grain to agar plate is growing slowly with bubbly mutations. I'll take photos once I can get clean shots. These were dated 3/7/24 and 2/18/24 respectively.
Goes to show these things can survive. The agar chunk I put in the cup was dried out too. The cup was pure green, but as you can see the growth is eating it rapidly. I put these to plate 2 weeks ago, and left them to do their business. Took a while to revive, but now they're going ham.
His equipment and teks had been left in a basement room, sealed up since he passed. I went in to help clean it out, and found all this stuff. Coco coir, casing material, etc., all around 2 years or more old. It's been really satisfying bring some of his work back from the dead. I miss him a lot, and this has been very cathartic finishing his projects.
