QS Path/Roles

Hi all,

Just seeing if anyone has any recommendations of where to go next.

I have been QS'ing 12 years, split between contractor and consultancy, I am currently an Associate Director.

Just seeing if anyone has moved to end client roles or fund monitoring etc, something different to the typical path of QS>SQS>AD etc.

Having working both sides, I'm starting to not enjoy the role as it plays out the same, either manage projects as a QS or PQS.

S3 E5 - Carver telling Herc to get customers

Rewatching S3 and something which I just don't get is when the hoppers first set up shop in Hamsterdam one says we have no customers.

Carv tells Herc to get the fiends and Herc says no I'm a sworn officer, Carver then mimics his stripes and Herc just folds?

Small thing but seems odd how quick Herc folded, yes later on in the S3 he blows his lid on Hamsterdam.

Avoiding Commercial Manager/MQS Role

Hi all,

Just wanted other QS's insight and experience.

I'm a MC SQS in a comfortable role, manage one project at a time, one AQS, flexible work etc.

I've been approached internally a few times to take on MQS position. However, I've always diplomatically turned it down.

From what I've seen, I don't really want to be reviewing all CVR's, getting involved in contract reviews, managing people etc. I like managing my project and turning off my laptop at the end of the day.

MQS's seem flat out, having multiple meetings, having to review order uplifts, payments, sit in on all monthly meetings on each project.

Any MQS who can provide their experience and maybe convince that the step up and day to day role isn't bad?
