Group of “friends” made fun of me for reading series
For context i was on camping trip happily reading TOD when this occurred. Everyone was packing up and getting ready to leave, i asked them to wait one more minute so i can finish the chapter before we go to get breakfast. Suddenly one of the guys in the group starts poking fun saying it a smut book, which should not matter in the slightest as we are all in our mid 20s. I responded and said actually this book is really tame and I started talking about how good of a series it is. Well.. they decided to look up all the “spicy scenes” like the >!beach scene in EOS!> and were passing the phone around reading it out loud and laughing and laughing about it. I asked them to stop reading out loud since it didn’t want any spoilers but I eventually grabbed the phone to see what everyone was making a big fuss about. These people are a part of a group of friends and we are all decently close and tend to poke fun at each other at times. But this felt different, i cant help feeling like this is inherently misogynistic. Like no one bats an eye at game of thrones, busty ladies in video games or even men watching porn for that matter. Why is it something women enjoy that has sex scenes in it so taboo?? Even if it was smut which i also read on occasion we are all adults and i honestly felt embarrassed by the end of it as some of the women were laughing too. Anyway id thought id share this here cuz i know y’all will understand my annoyance.
