Hi everyone,

Today I found a couple of old laptops I had at home and decided to start my first cyberdeck project.

At first glance they’re in pretty rough shape: lots of dust buildup, and some of the metal parts like hinges and connectors show signs of rust.

My plan now is to open them up, clean them, and see how well they still work. They stopped being useful a while ago, but I’d like to try repurposing them and make the most out of whatever still works.

For now I’m just in this first stage, exploring and evaluating which components are still usable.

If you have any advice on what I should check first or which parts are worth saving, I’d really appreciate it.

This is just the beginning 😄

Hi everyone,

I’m a beginner and I’m really excited to start my first project: a small portable “server deck” inside a hard case (like a suitcase setup).

My goal is to build something functional using mostly recycled parts, and then improve it over time. I also want it to be portable so I can use it outside (like in a café).

What I currently have: 2 old laptops one still works, but only when plugged in the other one doesn’t turn on (I plan to use it for parts) possible laptop screen to reuse old keyboards and basic components 2 old smartphones What I’m thinking of building: a portable setup inside a hard case using a Raspberry Pi 4 as the main computer reusing a laptop screen (if possible) adding a battery/power bank for portability My questions: Is it worth reusing a laptop screen, or is it too complicated for a beginner? What do I need to connect a laptop screen to a Raspberry Pi? Is a Raspberry Pi the best option for a small personal server deck? Any beginner-friendly advice for building something like this? Extra idea:

I’d also like to add a privacy filter to the screen, so it can only be viewed from the front (for working in public spaces).

Any advice, ideas, or similar builds would really help. Thanks a lot!
