I loveeeee this song. One of my favorite from unreleased songs by Lana.
I was a child browsing YouTube when a video appeared titled summertime sadness I really liked the clip, but I didn't know who the singer was. It wasn't until I became a teenager that I heard it by chance. Then I researched the singer and listened to almost all her songs. I'd never been so obsessed with a singer before. That's how I discovered Lana Del Rey.
So, it's my first year teaching high school after 11 years in the middle school trenches. I read "The Great Gatsby" at the end of this year with my juniors, and while some seemed like they were into it, a lot of them gave me the same emotional response they've had all year: blank stares. So we just finished the book last week, and next week is finals, and I figured what the hell: let's watch the 2013 movie version with my boy Leo.
At the beginning of the film, it was a typical sight: some paying attention, some staring at their phones, some asleep. Whatever, it's the end of the year, and I don't mind watching the movie 5 times, so it's typical business as usual. However, today we got to the midway point where Daisy and Gatsby reunite, and the damnedest thing happened that I haven't seen in all my 12 years of teaching: almost all of the girls and a few of the boys started breaking down uncontrollably.
For those of you that haven't seen the film, the montage features Gatsby and Daisy reunited after years of being away from one another, laughing and crying and doing all sorts of relationship honeymoon activities while Toby Maguire stands by awkwardly like some kind of third wheel Spiderman. The thing is: there's a song that plays throughout the film, that apparently was made for the film, by Lana Del Rey called "Young and Beautiful".
Now, I've heard the song a few times before, thought it was a bit somber and catchy, and went about my life as usual. However, when this song and the montage hit, it was like a god damn emotional cyclone hit the room. I ran out of tissues for them faster than I do during a single flu season. And then, the last few minutes of class, a girl comes up to me with a mascara tear streaked face that would put Brandon Lee from "The Crow" to shame, and tells me that they played that song at her quincenera. Then another girl chimes in and says the same. Then another. And another.
It turns out that this particular song has been used for over a decade as a popular quincenera entrance choice, and it's embedded itself into the collective consciousness of most of my students as a result. All god damn year, these kids have the pokerface of a master's tournament Texas hold em champion, and it takes some song from 2013 to emotionally wreck over half the class each time? Anyways, now I've probably accidentally got them all to traumatically associate a book from the 1920's with a popular coming of age ceremony, and it's all Leo's fault. And I've still got the whole second half of the film to go.
TLDR: I accidentally M-Quince Ultra'd most of my juniors thanks to a Gatsby montage.
...don't mind me!
Apparently some inside sources on Twitter are saying there may be a Stove update coming this Friday. Who knows if it’ll be a surprise release or maybe just the announcement. What do you all think of this?
I know many of you have started to become disappointed by the wait, but if it’s Lana, it’s worth it to me.
so now that we've hit the 3 and a half month mark since lana said the albums coming in 3 and a half months, i can't help but notice there isn't even a smidge of news about it.
now i know lana has been getting a lot of flack recently and while i do hate that for her.. this is what? the 3rd time (or perhaps even 4th?) she's put a defined date out into the world for when she is supposedly releasing this new record?
i get that these things take time, but surely it gets to a point where you're almost.. disrespecting the people who support you?
i could live with the first couple delays/title changes but this is getting more than a little frustrating to be told another date which never comes....
how are you guys feeling about it? and do you think she may actually announce something very soon?
Im crine why such an epic song for Walmart 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I heard this so many times, and I love it because i love lana but what does it mean?
I started really getting into Lana’s music summer of 2021. In fact it’s what made me learn to like and romanticize summer (I have always had reverse seasonal depression where I get depressed in the summertime and feel better in colder months.) after getting into her music that summer it made me appreciate and even look forward to and love the summer. I feel like almost all her music has summertime vibes/themes and so I tend to mainly listen to her during the summer (however recently I’ve been listening to her all year round despite trying to save her as my summertime artist.)
Also random side note: does anyone else have certain artists they only listen to during certain seasons or months? I do this with a lot of them. And Lana has always been one of my biggest listen-to-only-in-the-summertime artists.
HOWEVER, she does have a few songs that make me think of other seasons. The vast majority gives me summer vibes, BUT, for some reason Brooklyn Baby makes me think of autumn. And season of the witch I tend to listen to in October . Happiness is a Butterfly is another song that doesn’t necessarily make me think of the summer and I listen to any time of year. Also Margaret and Let the Light in I tend to associate with colder months, idk why. Also, Tomorrow Never Came makes me think of autumn for some reason.
Anyway, I was curious if anyone else has any specific Lana songs that makes them think of colder seasons? Obviously the mast majority are more summer coded but every so often she’ll release something that makes me think of cold weather 😅
For me this would be my list! Lmk ur guys own version :)

On the chopping board, I see broccoli, carrot and what appears to be sweet potato or maybe just regular potato.
Only cool people should listen to her. I'm glad that her audience is expanding but I hope she doesn't get too "mainstream" and stay out of the ears of some fuckass whack job people who'll pretend to like anything that's trendy. I already don't listen to summertime sadness anymore.
