$10K for 7 Days in Mexico?! Help Me Make It Worth It!
Looking for Mexico resort recommendations or non-AI alternative for a family of 4!
My husband works non-stop and only gets two weeks off in December. We're from Calgary, Canada, and have two kids (6 years old and 19 months).
We want to go to Mexico, and we understand that those dates are peak season and prices for all-inclusives are going to be high, but we really don't have any other choice. WE NEED TO ESCAPE WINTER for a little bit.
I've been looking at resorts, and I just cannot come to terms with the fact that it's going to cost us around $10K for one week. If we're spending that much, I really want to be fully satisfied with the experience.
What I'm looking for in a resort:
- Clean, sandy beach with nice, calm water. I love Hyatt Ziva for this, but it's too expensive for us.
- Clean, reasonably updated rooms and amenities.
- Good variety of food. I find that the à la carte "fine dining" restaurants at all-inclusives are often just lacklustre food with pretentious plating, so I'd honestly prefer a really good buffet and taco trucks.
- If there are lizards, iguanas, etc. roaming around the property, and other activities for kids, that's a huge bonus!
Any recommendations for a resort like this?
Alternatively, I'm considering doing a non-all-inclusive trip to Cancun or Playa del Carmen for 10 days instead of just 7 days at an all-inclusive. In that case, we'd need a place with a full kitchen so I can cook for the kids.
Ideally, it would be close to a safe, clean beach with calmer water, and a pool for the kids would be a HUGE bonus.
I want to hear your thoughts, recommendations, experiences — everything! Where would you go if you were in our shoes?
