Listen, I know that a lot of people mourn the days of OS and AG where Ash was more sassy, arrogant, and hot headed. And tbh it definitely was funny and entertaining in OS and at times in AG, but I’m not gonna lie man…Ash’s arrogance and hot headedness were seriously at it’s worst in AG. It made Ash seem like a dick sometimes and there were times in this series where he was genuinely irritating to watch. Like bro…that episode with Ash’s 1st battle with Brawly is something else 😭💀

Now this isn’t me calling AG Ash generally unlikable or anything like that. Ash is still Ash here in all the ways that count and I love that along with the general improvements that he made as a trainer in this series, but whenever that attitude of his reared it’s head, Ash just wasn’t very fun to watch

Which is why I’m glad Drake beat some humility into him lmao. With this, Ash finally started mellowing out in Battle Frontier and was generally more calm and humble going into DP. Not to say that he never gets overconfident, gets impatient, or butts heads with anyone ever again since that just isn’t true, but from DP onwards (yes even BW) that arrogant, hot headed Ash is more or less gone and I truly do think he’s all the better for it

I feel like I know what the majority of the answers will be (And if I’m right I agree lol), but I’m still curious

Now this isn’t me trying to defend Pikachu’s loss against Panpour. Truthfully, as you might can tell from the title, I don’t like how either of these battles played out. But that’s why it confuses me with how the community (rightfully) hates on the Panpour battle, but the Surskit battle gets justified when they’re extremely similar in how things played out and the circumstances surrounding them

-Both battles are the 1st gym of the region

-Both battles are against small water types in which Pikachu should typically have no problem dealing with up

-Pikachu gets pieced up left and right throughout both battles

-The battlefield gets hit with an attack that severely hinders Pikachu’s mobility (Mud Sport and Ice Beam respectively)

-The lack of mobility on the battlefield then leads to Pikachu getting defeated

No matter which way you slice it, this makes Pikachu look bad starting out the Unova and Kalos regions looking helpless against small water types. So with that, I’ll ask again…

Why is the Panpour battle met with tons of hate while the Surskit battle is met with justification and understanding when they’re both practically the same battle?

Look I get it. Alvarez has issues and certainly isn’t a perfect arc, but even with its frustrations and disappointments it still has incredible highs and I don’t think the lows have ever sunk as low as what we’ve been getting with 100YQ the last few years

Zactoshi just uploaded a video visualizing the events of the lost Team Rocket vs Team Plasma episodes and seeing this arc again visualized made me think how much that earthquake screwed over the plans the writers had for BW. 20 episodes of buildup and future plans for BW1 Team Plasma, N, and Ghetsis were gone just like that. Could’ve gotten them all a lot sooner than we actually did and properly spaced out throughout the series instead of putting all of it towards the end of BW’s run

That said, I am glad that assets of the canceled episodes were taken and repurposed into the Meloetta/Operation Tempest arc, which if you ask me was some of the best stuff to come out of the BW anime and the best Team Rocket arc in the anime period

Well maybe not quite as long, but definitely the longest series we’ve had since then lol
