I used to play this game maybe 3 or 2 years ago that was roughly based on chess, I think. It was a pixel art game (maybe) with a green shading that had a game-boy kind of look.
The boards would change per level, and there were a few unique pieces like a assassin pieces I believe. There were like classes/ groups you could be in that would give you certain boosts or skills. I never got to beat the game and I really want to! I think I could answer most questions about appearance if this isn't enough.
