Family member recently passed. She and her husband have permanent custody of 3 minor children that they got through kinship care. They have had all 3 children since birth. Are there any options for the spouse and children to get survivor’s benefits based on the deceased custodial (not biological/guardian/adoptive) parent’s record? There is a statement on the SSA site that custodial parents may qualify if the state recognizes the custodial parent as the legal parent. State is KY. Thanks!!!
