My app Run Split Map is a failure

I had this project to create a data page like Garmin's (metrics on the left, GPS map on the right during an activity), because I really enjoy that view while trail running.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work. The Zepp SDK doesn't provide a public API to display a map in a third-party app; I think the map component is restricted to native activities.

On top of that, while installing the app during testing, I noticed that the watch's graphic performance was reduced, a sign that the background process is still taking a toll on resources just to draw the track.

Sorry guys.

Amazfit Cheetah 2 Pro vs Garmin Forerunner 970, Urban GPS test

GPS accuracy: Amazfit Cheetah 2 Pro vs. Garmin Forerunner 970 on a highly technical urban circuit (narrow alleys, sharp turns, and a tunnel passage).

2 separate 2.5 km runs on different days, both watches worn on the same side. The maps overlay both sessions, showing all 10 laps combined (for a total of 5 km of testing).

The Garmin suffers from major GPS drift, scattering across the buildings.

At a much more affordable price point than the competition, the Amazfit Cheetah 2 Pro delivers a highly respectable performance. The gap is narrowing with the market leaders.

(Note: The ~9 km distance on the screens is because he continued walking after the test).

My app: Run Split Map (currently under development)

I planned to develop an app that offers a data page during GPS activities.

The data page is a Garmin clone with a split screen, data on the left and the GPS map on the right. For now I can't get the actual Zepp map rendering to work, so as a workaround, I'm displaying a breadcrumb navigation trail.

I did a short outdoor walk to test it out, the tracking works and the heart rate color changes according to the zone, but the result isn't optimal yet. I'll keep working on it in my free time (ideally Zepp should provide their own built-in solution).

My 1st watchface from scratch

I created my first watchface from scratch using the Watch Face Editor for Amazfit watch on ZeppOS.

You definitely feel lost for the first 10 minutes. The tool's logic takes some getting used to, but once you understand how the layers and data structure work, it becomes extremely simple and smooth. I’m just lacking the creativity.

The tool also allows you to reverse engineer and modify any existing watchface.

What was your first watchface ?

Why 600€ for the Cheetah 2 Pro ?

I tried to find out why Amazfit has raised their prices so significantly.

We know their current strategy is to regularly refresh their lineup in order to invest and grow financially. That’s fine, no issue there.

But why 600€ for the Cheetah 2 Ultra ?
On paper it’s a solid watch, components, specs, overall finish… (It actually looks better than the Cheetah 2 Pro).

The full Grade 5 titanium case can explain part of the price increase.

SiP packaging saw supply lead times exceed 20 weeks in 2025–2026, with costs rising 10 to 15%.

The dual circular-polarization GPS antenna, map rendering speed 2.5x faster, and refresh rate 12x faster than the previous generation, that implies either a more powerful SoC or costly hardware/software co-optimization.

I couldn’t find any other technical information to explain such a price point. The rest must come down to software development, profit margin, marketing, and brand positioning.

If you have any information, do not hesitate to share.

iOS 26.5 a opened the features of the Apple Watch to third-party smartwatches in Europe

Apple just released iOS 26.5, and it contains a major change imposed by the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA).

The 3 new features: proximity pairing, interactive notifications, and Live Activities on third-party watches.

Until now, third-party watches could only display iPhone notifications in read-only mode. With iOS 26.5, accessories can now allow users to interact and reply directly from the wrist.

What Zepp Health needs to do is obtain a specific entitlement from Apple (manual validation, 2 to 8 weeks minimum), update the Zepp iOS app to intercept notifications and serialize them over BLE, extend their proprietary BLE protocol with new opcodes to handle notification delivery and user response feedback, and most importantly build from scratch an interactive UI on Zepp OS capable of displaying action buttons and a quick reply interface, clearly the heaviest part of the work. All of this while complying with Apple’s contractual constraints that prohibit notification content from transiting through their servers.

Hopefully the teams are working on it.

Excellent response from support.

As I often tell the community, complaining mindlessly produces no results. If you want the brand to evolve, you must move past the emotional complaints of a crying child.

For feedback to be usable by the Amazfit development team or support, it is imperative to follow a structure. Detail what is wrong, why you think so, and propose a reliable start of a solution.
Regarding suggestions for new features, don't say "I want" you are not alone ! You must explain why it will improve the product and how it would make the user experience even better.

If you don't know how to technically formalize a ticket or a request for support or developers, ask me (I work in the software field in a multinational company). I will help you structure your ideas so they can be processed quickly.

One more thing. Amazfit operates on its own ecosystem (Zepp OS), with its own architectural constraints and proprietary algorithms. Asking to copy all features from Garmin or Apple is useless; you bought a 130$ watch, not 600$ or 1000$, don't forget that.
Improving a biometric tracking algorithm is a heavy process; data must be collected through test cohorts. Mathematical models must be trained and validated. Most importantly, improvements must be validated on the watches, along with resource optimization (CPU…).

Let’s move the brand forward together !

I just wanted to share these photos of wetherill.para.fit finishing the London Marathon, it’s a true testament to courage and resilience.
It’s a wonderful partnership for the brand. Well done.

I wondered why there was such a discrepancy in tracking accuracy between these two watches, even though they look identical.

The T-Rex 3 Pro has an Airoha GPS chip. While browsing Chinese technical websites to find the specs, I realized that it has firmware specifically optimized for "multi-path interference rejection." It’s a software layer within the chip that analyzes whether the signal is direct or a bounce off a wall before confirming the position.
And of course, the titanium bezel with its integrated circular antenna boosts reception and filters out interference more effectively.

The T-Rex 3 has a steel bezel that handles micro-discrepancies less effectively. Its chip has to constantly recalculate the position due to data packet loss, resulting in a track with a discrepancy of a few meters.

If you need good accuracy for your outdoor runs, buy the T-Rex 3 Pro.
