We place our mirrors in front of others,
then step aside and view them from a different angle
We ask them to become versions of ourselves
My mirror tells me something else
When I face the cracks in my own reflection
my parts,
my place,
my shell,
my walls,
my pain,
my care,
my love
I begin to understand
We can look into a mirror,
but we can’t see it through its owner’s eyes
I don’t always have the answers,
I don’t expect to always be understood,
and I don’t always expect to understand
But I can choose to face the cracks in my own mirror
to humanize it,
to take responsibility for it
And when I look at those I love and care for,
I can recognize their mirrors
without trying to define
Because their mirrors are their own reflections,
their own stories,
their own trophies
If I could define it in words
Humans.
My favorite humans are
They carry their light like beacons
Their eyes tell stories
Their souls are gently crafted
Raw humans, unafraid to be themselves
The world isn't ready for their hearts
For you
For the sun you rise with,
For the wind you make,
For how human you are
My words, to applaud you
Did you see what I see?
Let me show you what I saw
At your core
Where life lays bare
Where internally
The beauty in it
In your rawest form, I still loved being by your side
In your rawest form, what makes you unique
How human you are
When my truth is broken down to an atom
Hope
For your happiness
For your peace
For you to dance freely with the air
For you to know you are
Celebrated
Hope
You still carry that child within you,
The one who gets excited by the small things
I want to thank you for being my favorite human
