hello, my 14 year old cat (domestic short hair) got diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, she developed symptoms (lethargy, peeing frequently and drinking a lot of water) after going for a iodine 131 treatment for her hyperthyroidism, so we took her to the vet and she got fluids and after a manual exam (we didn’t get a scan because it’s expensive and we can’t afford it) the vet told us she had a mass in her kidneys and she only had 1-2 weeks left. it’s been a week and my cat is still with us, she isn’t too active but she reacts to us coming to see her, she gets up and walks around occasionally and sometimes she gets up and goes to the kitchen when we serve food to our other cats, she goes to the litter box and drinks water by herself although most of the time she is laying on our bed but she purrs when she’s gets pats. our main concern is that she isn’t eating much, she’s always been a picky eater and a small cat but she’s been wanting only churus and a few licks of fancy feasts pate, she’s not eating dry food at all now; we tried the hills kidney one but she doesn’t really like/eat it. she had food stimulants prescribed (mirtazapine) as well but they don’t seem to make a difference. she’s on anti nausea meds (cerenia) and she had pain meds as well (vetergesic) but she was so much worse on those acting like a zombie and not eating at all. i guess we would like to know what can we do to help her eat more and have more energy? we don’t wanna see her in pain or struggle but the way she’s acting, except for her lack of appetite, is telling us that she’s still alright. do you think she can get any better? what should we realistically do? Thanks for any help!
