Are 200MP cameras actually useful now or is it mostly phone marketing?

Are 200MP cameras actually useful now or is it mostly phone marketing?

I keep seeing more Android brands push 200MP as the headline.

realme 16 Pro+ has it, Honor has been pushing 200MP cameras too, and Xiaomi are still doing the whole camera-first flagship thing.

I get that the sensor can help with detail, cropping, pixel binning, etc. But for normal people taking photos of family, pets, food, random night shots, is the number itself actually changing much?

I’d rather have good skin tones and fast shutter than a massive file I’m never zooming into.
