It may be just me, but in my opinion Kahan’s newfound near-global superstar status and immense pressure to appeal to millions and not just to simply create or himself like he used to–this beauty evidenced in the work Cape Elizabeth, his words in the documentary, and in in part Stick Season–isn’t at all conducive to creating truly authentic and thus purely beautiful works such as the aforementioned EP and will only affect the quality of his work over time. Of course this isn’t the opinion of the mass majority, but purely how I feel–and I hope a couple of others at least relate and please comment to this if so.
*Not to say that I don't like The Great Divide. I am quite enamored by some moments on this album.
