Stony Brook or Hunter? - Readmitted Student

Hello!

I was recently readmitted to Hunter and was also accepted to Stony Brook as a transfer student for Biology. I checked chem 104/106 and bio classes, and all of them were full. Is it realistically possible to get into these classes through Coursicle during the beginning of the semester?

How do students even enroll in these classes if they're this competitive? Would it be better to go to Stony instead of risking it?

For context, I've been hired starting last week as a teaching support staff for the infant and toddler room during the summer (3 months). It's my first job at a daycare, and every day I've been going home thinking about quitting. Here are some of the reasons...

  1. Got sick after the second day -- There are around 8-10 toddlers, and half of them come in with a cough or extremely runny nose. I caught a virus after my second day, and I haven't felt this sick since covid (I'm still very sick and no one seems to care). At least 3 teachers/TAs have been sick with me as well, so we're all just coughing all day together. Today, one toddler couldn't even fall asleep because he was coughing nonstop, but all the teachers just let him be.

  2. A few TAs and teachers are abusive towards the infants and toddlers -- How is this allowed, and how is everyone okay with it? I've witnessed multiple incidents where an infant or toddler makes a mistake or annoys another child, and a teacher/TA reacts by aggressively lifting them up and shouting right by their face (e.g., "I TOLD YOU NOT TO ...."). How is an infant supposed to fully understand that?

  3. Microaggressions from teachers and TAs are now being directly at me because I'm nice to them -- My job is to assist them when teaching, but they all (even the TAs) treat me like their personal assistant although we get paid exactly the same (I've also been hired to sub as a TA). They constantly make small requests to me, don't communicate clearly, and then complain if things aren't done the way they want. Some examples:

  • Grapes not being cut the way they prefer -> they leave their own lunch trash for me to clean up.
  • The abusive infant teacher leaves laundry on the floor for me to pick up
  • She also constantly sends me back and forth to the kitchen for her requests, and makes fun of me behind my back for bringing less oranges for 4 infants.

Note: Three of the teachers have worked here for years, and are very close and cliquey. On my first day, they had me sit in front of them while they talked about how none of them don't even know how to train someone for a role like mine, and how they needed a TA but not me (even though I essentially do TA work), etc.

Is this normal for all daycares? Should I put up with it?
