Best bug sprays stop working once you’re outside for a few hours lol. Need advice

Been trying to figure out what actually works after a few trips where everything felt fine at first and then just stopped doing anything once it got a bit humid and dark.

Its starting to feel like most advice is based on quick use, not actually sitting outside for hours.

After trying a few different types a couple things became pretty obvious. Here are my solid reservations:

The first hour does not mean anything lmao

A lot of sprays feel strong right after applying and you think you are covered. An hour in, you are suddenly swatting at everything again.

OFF hold up longer sometimes, even if it smells stronger. Lighter ones like repel feel nicer tbh but fade quicker once you start sweating.

Sweat is where things fall apart.Anything that feels too light just disappears once you are moving around a bit.

Missing spots are like bullseyes for bugs

Took a while to realise this but it is not always the spray. Ankles, behind knees, wrists, around the neck, those always get missed and that is exactly where bugs go.

Switching to something like a lotion from Sawyer made this way easier to control but not completely

Bracelets and patches are not enough on their own. These seem like gimmicks to me ill be honest. Tried a few of those band type things thinking they would be easier.

They are fine for light situations but once it gets bad they just do not cover enough area.

Heres what i think will work for me:

From actually using these outside, the ones that hold up tend to still be noticeable after an hour or two and

  • not disappear as soon as you start sweating
  • be easy to reapply without thinking too much
  • not make you want to wash it off after a while

I need someone to tell me the reality of using a bug spray that works. Starting to lose faith in marketing terms pls tell me heavy duty insect repellent wont smell like super glue

Please tell me which easily available sprays and lotions work along with my nets and all.
