Is this realistic/functional?
I'm building a world for a novel I'm (eventually) going to write. I know this is probably excessive, but I'm working in the first city the main characters will visit, and wanted to get a feeling of what everyday life would look like, so i made a little text abt the economy. I have little to none knowledge about economies, so i wanted to ask if this makes sense:
Economy
Kilghar’s economy is dominated by the factories in the center of the city. These factories are bought by nobility and rich people, and many townspeople work here. A few of them are owned by the crown, such as The Bakery, a massive bread factory that also sells bread very cheaply. The workers are paid around 2 silver coins per week. Anyone that works outside the factories pays a tax of 4 silver coins a month, or 48 silver coins a year. Farmers and cattle breeders live outside the city walls, and the crown takes part of their produce. For farmers, the crown is allowed to take the produce of a fourth of their total, and for cattle breeders a sixth. Here are the estimated values of some things, though they often change:
(1 Copper = 1 US dollar approx)
(1 Silver = 10 US dollars approx)
Meat (kg): 1 silver, 5 copper
Chicken (kg): 1 silver
Fish (kg: 6 copper
Vegetables (kg): 2 copper
Cloth (m2): 5 copper (cheap cloth), 1 silver (medium quality), 2 silver (expensive)
Bread (kg): 1 copper (cheap), 5 copper (common)
Ale (liter): 5 copper
Wine (liter): 5 silver (medium to good)
Fruit (kg): 3 copper
