example 1. Told my manager someone in our team had been in a serious car accident (didn’t give details but did highlight whilst they were lucky to be ok physically, it could have been significantly worse) so they wouldn’t be in work. Manager response “ok no problem”.

team member eventually logs in and isn’t ever contacted by the manager to say sorry to hear / hope she’s ok etc

example 2. told my manager my child was in hospital with suspected serious condition. She was discharged and needed to go for couple of follow up apppintments. I expected to only be away for a few hours but I messaged in the day saying I won’t be able to return back at time I thought as they are doing more tests for something serious. Manager response “ok no prob”

Logged into work next day and she didn’t contact me to ask how everything went / if everything is ok.

I’m not expecting my manager to care… But I probably expect her to pretend to. Just a courtesy ‘Hope all ok?’ ‘how is X doing?’

Note this is the same manager who didn’t contact me on my first day back from mat leave. They knew I was online (from seeing my response to someone on wider chat) but in the end I reached out around lunchtime. No welcome back. No call planned. No return to work plan.

Are my expectations reasonable? how would you approach this? Would you say something?
