Nioh 3 taught me how to use multiple weapons.
when I played Nioh 1 and 2, I usually just played with 1 weapon at a time, like the switchglaive, or the fists. I may swap weapons, but it would be once a every few missions.
I always thought you had to be a master of multiple weapons to try playing with multiple of them. Nioh 3 taught me that’s a lie.
i think 1 thing that helped me learn that is the Samurai and ninja mode system. Samurai and ninja modes play very differently from eachother, with the deflects vs evades, and other stuff. And your encouraged to swap between modes with burst counters. Granted, you don’t need to swap modes if you don’t want to. I wanted to swap modes.
mainly because I liked playing with both samurai weapons and ninja weapons. The experience of playing badly with both a samurai and ninja weapon that I am not great with at the same time taught me I don’t need to be a master of each weapon to play them both. I just need to press a button to swap weapons. I got better with each of the weapons.
Another thing that helped encourage me to play multiple weapons was the fact that they restricted you from using 2 weapons in the same mode until you get far enough in the game(either beat the first crucible or the beat the first main zone. I forget which). For me, it took 10-20 hours to unlock the ability to use 2 weapons in the same style.
that time spent only using 1 ninja weapon at a time let me develop my skills at using multiple weapons(1 samurai And 1 ninja weapon). So when I unlocked the ability to use 4 weapons instead of 2, I was mentally prepared. Not only that, but I was actually interested in using multiple weapons for ninja mode, as several of the weapons looked fun. So when I finally gained the ability to use 2 ninja weapons, I actually tried it out instead of just using 1 weapon at a time for a long time, and then another weapon for a long time.
Now that I am playing with multiple weapons, it feels like I have so many more options than I did before. It’s overwhelming, but it’s also liberating. I can have so much flexibility with the switchglaive, or swap or the claws which has of mobility and moves that can defend and attack at the same time(defensive drop can also avoid an attack via hitboxs). Or I could swap to the hatchets and attack from any range with it’s Aerial moves being so much fun, or I could swap to the samurai duel swords which move you around the battlefield so much. It’s fun.
So remember, you too can play with multiple weapons badly. It’s not exclusive to the experts.
