My review of the Thornhill "Mercia" tour

With Bodies being my AOTY of 2025 along with getting another opportunity to see 156/Silence live and lastly getting a potentially once in a lifetime chance to see Vianova, I had been anticipating this tour date for months. Hosted at the lovely Brooklyn Bowl in Philly right next to the Foundry and Fillmore, I'm a big fan of this venue. Lots of space to get a good view and a great sound, stage, and lighting.

First up was Vianova and they played a modest 6-song set. We got to hear all the favorites of Mas Rapido, Melanchronic, Uh Yaya, and of course finished off with Whatever Alright. The vocalist has some great chops, but also extended some of his softer vocals longer than they typically do in songs when the screams would typically pick up. The audience was impressed every time he started singing cleans. Fun opener for a luckily packed crowd. And yes he wore the hat and glasses.

Next was Fox Lake which was surprising because the tour poster had them above 156/Silence. Setlist.fm also had them playing 10 songs but they ended up playing only 7. It felt like an American version of Alpha Wolf with some Limp Bizkit mixed in. Total bro-core and gym-core vibes, but they marketed themselves as providing a dance party. The crowd was energized for this and it made for a fun time.

Then we have 156/Silence that ended up playing a 9-song set that hit hard. The vocalist Jack delivered once again and it was powerful. We got like 5-6 songs from People Watching including Character Development, Product Placement, Wants I Need, Target Acquired, and Better Written Villain. Sadly no Blood Loss. Jack also sounded heavier on some songs than how he did in the studio similar to how Architects will sometimes show off their lows despite them never appearing in the albums. They of course played Our Parting Ways and even played a new song that is supposedly coming out next week. Definitely seems like they're going softer, but still sounding great whiled doing it.

Finally we have Thornhill. They played an incredible 16-song setlist which included most of Bodies (though no Only Ever You which was upsetting). Diesel, Revolver, Under the Knife, For Now, Obsession, Nerv, Silver Swarm, and Tongues. Don't think they'll ever play Crush sadly. They also played some oldies like Hollywood, Casanova, Arkangel, Lily & the Moon, Nurture. Of course they played Mercia which was awesome. Interestingly enough no Where We Go When We Die nor Coven nor Reptile. My only gripe was when they played Blue Velvet as that really killed the energetic vibe. People were doing some Kumbaya circle pit for it, but by that point we were tired from all the standing.

The merch was all pretty lackluster despite me wanting to give them money. All in all great tour and excellent sets from all four bands. Would recommend any of the bands if they're coming to your area.
